College in the Digital Age

I feel at least a little lucky. When I started college, the digital age had just kicked in at full steam. We had finally reached the point where everyone had a computer and people were starting to learn what iPods were and how to use Google to do their homework. I had spend high school acclimating myself with these amazing new technologies and by the time college got around I could have been anything from a Powerpoint designer to a C++ programmer. I chose business in the end, but that doesn’t mean my skills have gone to waste.

I’ve given more Powerpoint tips to my friends and coworkers than I can remember and the Powerpoint templates sitting on my desktop range between a dozen different topics and companies that could all easily be my own, but are not. I have spent countless hours putting together knowledge bases on nearly every digital topic you can imagine, but not intentionally, just as a byproduct of my communication. There are those older than me who actually had to go back to school to learn all of this stuff, and for that reason I feel at least a little lucky. Of course, the next generation is arriving and they were born after the Internet was invented…meaning I will soon be forced to catch up to them.
