When it comes to combat sports, the thought of paintball often springs to mind; however, airsoft is now the more popular and sophisticated form of combat sport for advanced skills. The weapons carried in addition to gear worn by players closely resemble that of military and law enforcement units. Individuals working together as a team carry out various strategies in order to eliminate an opposing unit using plastic pellets. The weapons, ranging from pistols to assault weapons, are powered by CO2 cartridges. There are several modes of airsoft play that can range from formal combat training and simulation to informal weekend play with friends.

Once an individual develops an interest in airsoft, he or she will find there are a vast number of gear and weapons to choose from. As for weapons, there are common favorites amongst airsoft enthusiasts. For example, the Tokyo Marui and Classic Army are names that frequently float around in airsoft circles. However, the type of weapon a player needs will be based on elements such as range, method of play, price range and personal preference. A weapon that works well for one individual will not always work for another. Though only replicas, players must follow strict safety protocols when dealing with airsoft weapons.
