In Praise of Digital Cameras

I was thinking back yesterday to the days of old. You know the ones before there were digital cameras. Taking a picture was an elaborate long winded affair.
Say for instance, your baby was taking his first step, and you, excited Mom that you were immediately wanted to capture this moment for posterity. First, you had to fish out the big black camera in its case in a safely hidden corner of your closet. Then, you filled it with a roll of film, and wound it. You waited several seconds for the all important flash, and as you set up an appropriate vantage position to take that perfect shot, you realized that your little bundle of joy had had enough walking for the day, and had settled down on the floor to play happily.
Those days all seem like belonging to another century, when they were all part of our lives just a couple of decades ago. With digital cameras, not only do you have the freedom to aim and shoot, you also have an incredible range of possibilities when it comes to displaying your treasured photos. No longer are they relegated to tattered photo albums. Now, you can have your favorite pictures on coffee mugs, placemats, calendars and more. You can have them printed on your pillow to create a truly custom pillow, feature them on your kids bedding, and blend a selection of them together to create a photo blanket. These not only make a great keepsake, but I’ve noticed that they make much appreciated and personalized birthday gifts for family members.
