Be Safe With Candles

Fire agencies repot a spurt of fires and fire related disasters around times when candles are heavily in season, like during Christmas time. It’s easy to light a few aromatherapy soy candles at strategic points in your house, and forget all about these while you’re involved in your festivities. This can be highly dangerous, and experts suggest that you take great care with your beautiful-but-still-prone-to-risk jar candles.

Make sure that all packaging materials are removed form the scented jar candles before you light it.
The wick should be trimmed to at least 1/8”.
Don’t place your candles in places where they can’t be seen easily. No candles in dark nooks and under the stairs, where a budding fire can’t be noticed easily.
Keep the pool of wax free of any combustible debris, like matches etc.
Take care while handling glass jar candles - these should not be left sitting on a surface for too long while the wax empties because it can cause burning of the table top or the surface where it is kept.
Avoid keeping candles near open windows or other drafty areas of the house.
Lastly, teach your kids that candles are not toys, not matter how cute and harmless they look.
