Researching the Causes of Back Pain
Posted by fsReview on 11/14/08 in Health
Almost three years ago now, my husband was having some serious back pain, as well as numbness and pain in his left leg and foot. After numerous trips to the doctor, X-rays, an MRI, and several trips to see a specialist, it was determined that he had a herniated disc in his lower back. The herniation was quite large and was compressing the nerves in his spinal cord that ran down into his leg and foot, causing the numbness, pain, and lack of strength.
During this period, both before and after we knew what his problem was, the Internet was a great source of information. Especially once we saw the specialist, we were able to research online and get information about lower back pain relief for disc herniations.
The herniation was too big to go away with just some physical therapy, so my husband wasn’t able to explore magnets and medicine and other methods of alternative pain relief. Because of the concern that the nerve damage could be permanent, his only option was to have surgery and get it fixed as quickly as possible. Luckily, the surgery worked and he eventually recovered most of the feeling in his left leg and foot!
