When my sister was in her final year of college, she had a mental breakdown.  I got a 3 am call from her room mate, frantic.  My sister had not left their dorm room in two weeks, was refusing to get dressed and had not been to a class in ages. 

When I went to the college as soon as I saw her I knew she needed to come home. I also knew she needed professional help. When I mentioned this to her, she freaked out, saying she didn’t want to go to a psychiatric hospital.  I told her that was okay.   I had done some research in our home state and discovered that some Florida drug treatment centers also help people with psychiatric problems such as stress and depression.  I told my sister she could get professional help without feeling like she was in a locked ward.

Together we picked out a Florida drug rehab center that she felt comfortable with.  We went and met with a couple of the counselors to get a feel for the place.   I left and my sister stayed.

I have no doubt that the treatment she received saved not only her sanity but her life.  The counselors at the Florida drug rehab center that we chose still call and check up on her two years later.
